The Route 66 Corridor of downtown Winslow is zoned for live/work occupancy, and this zone includes many historic industrial buildings that lend themselves to an open loft living space.

The 2,200 sq ft loft at Snowdrift overlooks the main exhibition space and originally was used as an Indian goods retail and office space. We removed the majority of the rooms in the loft and created a wide open space that is ideal for displaying large works of art and for entertaining large groups of people.
Below the loft area we have converted a series of rooms that were once used for storage into an in-line kitchen, den, office and library. The smaller downstairs rooms are more economical to heat in the winter.
This system of living means that we spread out and entertain in the large spaces during the summer and then "hibernate" in the smaller rooms for the winter. Its an interesting way to live in that you are regularly redefining your living space, and as a result, reassessing that space each season.

The price for having the luxury of space is that you have to maintain it. The maintenance on the roof alone costs a significant amount of time and money every year. However there are moments that make it all worth while, moments like watching a sunset while relaxing on the roof, with the San Francisco Peaks and Hopi Mesa spread out before you.
