PLANNING YOUR VISIT
TO WINSLOW
The Standin' On the Corner Park is dedicated to the famous Eagles song, "Take it Easy,"  and the lyric,
"Well I'm standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, and it's such a fine sight to see. It's a girl, my lord, in a
flat bed Ford, slowin' down to take a look at me. Take it easy...."
                   About Downtown Winslow
After Interstate 40 bypassed Winslow in 1970, the downtown area fell into a 30-year decline. But hidden
there was a great collection of historical buildings, ripe for the moment when travelers became tired of the
homogenized I-40 experience and wanted to rediscover small town America along old Route 66. Winslow
was a bit of a time capsule, waiting for someone to find it again, and the process of revival began in 1997
with the restoration of La Posada Hotel. This Fred Harvey hotel was built in 1930 by Mary Jane Colter, and is
recognized on the National Register of Historic Places as a masterpiece of southwestern architecture. The
70,000 square foot hotel, which sits on 16 acres of lawns and gardens, is modeled after a grand Spanish
hacienda. With La Posada acting as an anchor, downtown Winslow is alive again with art galleries, antique
stores, a restored 1914 movie theatre, restaurants, and coffee shops. Below are a series of photos of
downtown places, which all exist within a two block radius of SNOWDRIFT. Click on the images for more
