The Winslow Council for the Arts had its first meeting in the La Posada Hotel Ballroom on November 9th.
Approximately 25 people attended the meeting.  The meeting opened with general statement about the goals
for the council and an introduction of the council member and chairman.  Discussion then centered on seven
agenda items:

1) It was decided that the council would meet on the second Wednesday of each month.

2) The council then discussed the creation of a mission statement. A couple of examples from other
communities were noted, and then it was suggested that council members and members of the public should
think about a mission statement and bring their ideas to the next meeting.  The item was then tabled until the
next meeting.

3) The council then discussed the creation of a web-site. It was decided to form a sub-committee to create the
site. Volunteers for the sub-committee were Eloise DeSpain, James Good and Daniel Lutzick.  It was agreed
among the sub-committee that they would meet on Wednesday, November 16th at 12 noon at Eloise
DeSpain's studio.

4) The council then discussed the option of displaying work in various empty storefronts downtown.  It was
suggested that work should be hung in the closed Gallery 107, Pet Patio and Tuxedo Rental storefronts in time
for the Christmas parade on November 19th. It was  agreed that those wishing to submit work for display
should contact Dan Lutzick at SNOWDRIFT Art Space.

5) The council then discussed the adoption of meeting guidelines and council terms. In a manner similar to the
city of Winslow's creation of a commission, it was decided that initially three council member's terms should end
in one year, three council member's terms should end after two years, and the chairman's term should end
after two years. This would allow a rotation of individuals into the council without disrupting the entire group.
There was also much discussion about how the audience and council would interact during a meeting, about
the Winslow Council for the Arts requesting official recognition as a city commission from the Winslow City
Council, and about things like the "open meeting laws" that apply to such commissions. It was also suggested
that the council should select a secretary and treasurer, and that these selections would be an agenda item at
the next meeting. It was then decided that more research would be done on the matter and that the item would
be discussed again at the next meeting. The item was then tabled.

6) The council then discussed a schedule for proposed events in 2006. It was noted that a group of model
railroaders was setting up an exhibit at La Posada Hotel's Depot on April 20 & 21, 2005. It was suggested that
various other exhibitions in other venues could be timed to coincide with the model railroad event. It was
decided that further discussion on the 2006 event schedule should take place at the next meeting and that the
item should be tabled.

7)Toward the end of the meeting, Sue Bumpus, co-owner of Gentle Soles Inc. announced that she and Peggy
Pratt were donating $500 the Winslow Council for the Arts. Tom McCauley also announced that he would
donate a full page advertisement in the Scoop to the council.  The meeting then adjourned, and a number of
council members and the audience took a walk downtown to review vacant store front exhibition sites and to
take a tour of the SNOWDRIFT Art Space.
